Malaysia's CEO makes firm statement ahead of match against Vietnam

Malaysia's CEO Rob Friend speaks out before the match against Vietnam, affirming the team remains united and focused despite suffering personnel losses following a controversial ruling from CAS.

Malaysia national team CEO Rob Friend has shared noteworthy remarks ahead of the encounter with Vietnam in the final round of Asian Cup 2027 qualification. The team's leader confirmed the entire squad maintains unity and maximum focus for the upcoming crucial match.

According to the schedule, Malaysia will face Vietnam in the final Group F match of Asian Cup 2027 qualification on March 31, 2026. This is considered a pivotal match for the ambitions of coach Peter Cklamovski and his team in the race to secure a spot for the next stage.

Speaking to the media, Rob Friend acknowledged that Malaysia's team management is dissatisfied with the ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). “We are disappointed with CAS's overall decision, even though the penalty was reduced. Based on the arguments presented, we believe there was still grounds for a different ruling,” he stated.

Nevertheless, Malaysia's CEO emphasized the entire team will continue to stand alongside the players as they prepare for the match against Vietnam. “Our responsibility now is to stand firmly with the players and focus entirely on the upcoming match. We believe Malaysian football will become stronger and more united after this experience,” Rob Friend affirmed.

Vietnam will face Malaysia again on March 31

In their most recent encounter, Malaysia surprised by defeating Vietnam with a convincing 4-0 score at Bukit Jalil Stadium. This victory gives Malaysia additional confidence ahead of the rematch in late March.

However, the Southeast Asian team will not have its strongest squad as seven players must continue serving suspensions imposed by CAS on March 5. This forces Malaysia's coaching staff to make personnel adjustments before the highly anticipated and tense showdown with Vietnam.
